OVERVIEW
Within a collective team, you will explore potential project ideas, formats and styles.
Research and development will culminate in a body of pre production work that will lead the
team to create an animated sequence to be resolved in BA3b.
DETAILS
This project will build upon collaborative teamworking developed in Year 2. As part of a
collective, you will devise a project which has scope for individuals to evolve and showcase their
specialist and generalist talents. Along with your collaborators you will be required to delegate
and negotiate roles, individual contributions and proposed outcomes.
2
The group will work in a process reflecting industry standards practice, with key roles being
defined and supported. Pre production work will take place within BA3a, with each group
member required to participate in the successful creation of pre-production assets. These are to
be focused on designs (e.g. characters, set, script, thumbnail board, storyboard, colour script)
with optional elements such as animation tests and animatics leading to a coherent blueprint,
which will be used to resolve the project in BA3b.
The format and style of the proposed animated sequence content is to be decided by the group
and negotiated with the course team. Suggested formats for the proposed outcome are
narrative, non narrative/expeirmental, documentary/visual essay, motion graphics, anthology,
competition entry (format dicated by the brief), live brief, emerging technologies (e.g.
Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality).
You will further develop generalist, specialist and transferable skills as you work to lay the
foundations of a successful outcome. As an individual you are responsible for facilitating a
structure within the proposed concept in which to develop and showcase skills as a practitioner.
The course team will be available to support you with any difficulties in sharing of workload.
You are required to demonstrate an ability to develop the concept and individual elements
beyond the initial findings, through engagement with feedback leading to iteration.
As a team you will develop a bespoke schedule around predefined presentations. Tutorials with
the course team are expected to be steered by the group.
TEAMWORK / LIVE BRIEFS
Each collective may propose multiple projects. As such each artist will not be required to work
on each project, but you will be required to participate in constant critical discussion throughout
BA3a and BA3b, sharing opinions, learning, and where it’s relevant technical skills. This will be
evidenced in the blog and weekly summaries leading to your evaluation.
You are able to work on more than one project, which can be part of a collaboration with fellow
students or external partners. You are also able to work on live briefs through negotiation with
the course team to assess whether the brief can fulfill the learning outcomes.
By the end of this project you should have the following work completed which will
become part of your submission at the end of the unit:
● Pre Production Document A Group Design Document including designs, synopsis
and a script for each project you are working on. All work must be labelled by artist,
and roles for BA3b clearly outlined. Animatic and animation tests optional.
● Personal Pre Production Work (personal contribution) Static designs and/or moving
image work.
● Research Portfolio a link to your blog demonstrating sustained engagement with
research, development towards the successful outcome of the team’s goals, including
3
a weekly summary.
● Reflective Journal a PDF extracted from your research blog containing all weekly
summaries and a final critical evaluation of the project, with a suggested word count of
250 words.
