Narrative for fable Message: Balance

Planning my narrative by typing it out instead of storyboarding straight away helps me alot to figure out the scenes especially the camera angles. My slight concern I have is the amount of different scenes and figuring out a way of fitting this all in alongside a title and credits. Next step would be to create an animatic to get a clearer understanding with the timing.

scene 1: Sun rises on a backdrop of buildings succumbed by nature and weathering away, still holding most their form but covered in strange plants and foliage.
scene: girl sits up and rubs her eyes/ background is the floating robotic orb
scene: close up on the orb
Scene : watches the sun rise before getting up, putting her back pack on and wandering off screen.
scene: orbs perspective looking down. girl finds a keyring. spirits are coming out of the earth
scene: spirits rub up against her and she giggles. close up on orb. orb flickers from blue to red.
scene: girl continues her journey, scenes change, spirits float around her
scene: while shes searching and spirits playing she looks up and the orb looks at her and is blue. creatures come back and it flashes red making horrible noise.
scene: she reaches out her hand and touches the orb, the spirits swirl down her arm. the orb calms and turns green.
final scene: all cosied up while the orb works as a night light.

Inspiration for Narrative

Balance

Some of the key inspirations for me choosing this narrative are due to real-world events, as we are all aware industrialisation has extended past the point of ever slowing down along with the rise in technology and sadly meaning more destruction to the natural world.

As someone who is an avid technology fan, especially when it comes to buying software or equipment to help me with my artwork I understand the desire for things to keep getting better and better. But where is the balance? There isn’t any. I’m not trying to state facts or make this a campaign for the earth, but at the same time, I want to express my feelings towards how our planet is coping today. I believe in a balance, a balance of love, harmony and caring for the planet as well as letting the world to continue to advance in ways we can only imagine.

Yūgen (幽玄)

Yūgen is said to mean “a profound, mysterious sense of the beauty of the universe… and the sad beauty of human suffering”.

Yūgen suggests that beyond what can be said but is not an allusion to another world. It is about this world, this experience.

Yugen is the title chosen for my animated Fable, ‘Yugen’ is set in a post-apocalyptic Japan where nature has reclaimed the earth due to industrialization and humans greed having no regard for nature or the animals that are trying to exist. My fable is based somewhat in the future of the apocalypse happening, our main character is in the world which is rather succumbed to the natural world, with the buildings crumbling and covered in foliage and new types of organic trees and creatures are emerging. This is meant to symbolise the world being ‘reborn’. The moon being shattered in the sky is again meant to signify to the audience that something terrible has happened or at least a sign of change from the world we’re used to.
