Work and Research for the project ‘Fable’.
I managed to find the facebook post that had inspired me originally with the car scene, some of these images really reflect the beauty of nature taking over man made objects and forms. I’d love to be able to create some concept art inspired by these photos next term. I think the plane one perspective and colour wise would make a great piece.
So this week I plan on finishing my animatic and getting it to a point which is ready to be submitted, I’ve started to further develop certain scenes roughly just to try and understand some of the movement, but I’m aware that I don’t have to fully animate the whole thing. I’m going to continue to rough sketch my animatic until its ready to be outlined. There are still parts that need to be changed, for example the beginning scene I thought I’d switch up the perspective but I’ve decided I prefer it with the girl up close, as well as the yawn scene which I need to relook at and redraw as I’m not entirely happy with it.
Elements I do enjoy is the overall feel and camera angles, I also like that I’ve taken into consideration the t-shirt moving with the body when she stretches upwards which is effective.
So this scene was inspired by this photo that I actually came across on facebook of posts of abandoned areas and places around the world, I felt that this image resembles calmness, however, a calmness which is due to the panic that was possibly happening in the past having subsided.
In a lot of apocalyptic scenarios, a very typical scene is cars being stuck in gridlock and people panicking, although this may have not been what was happening in the photo below at some point in time, it is what I took creatively from the image.
Another childlike response that I have seen in films and sadly the real world in 3rd world countries, children have fun or perhaps even make fun with their surroundings when they have nothing else. I wanted to capture this scene to show how my young character is living in this world which would have once been racked with fear and panic but is now embracing it as it is.
As my animation is set in the future I wanted to make sure my cars were modernized as well as when it came to the number plates to create my own language. Once the car were finished in Paint Tool Sai I then did the same as I did with the buildings and put them into Paintstorm where I added the foliage and dirt effect to age them.
I really wanted to attempt to create a beautiful sunrise at the beginning of my animation, I think a sunrise can signify many different things especially the idea of new beginnings and rebirth. I had somewhat an idea on where to begin but I decided to check if youtube had any tutorials and it turns out it did!
I found this amazing tutorial, something I can hopefully revisit in the future as I really love her art style, very game like and really beautiful use of shadows and lighting.

Very similar to how I’ve composited the rest of my work, I simply saved every file as a PNG, imported it into After Effects and the tried to figure out how to make the timings work with my frames. It was definitely trial and error but was for sure something that I enjoyed doing and will come back to at a later date. I think that for me, learning these skills in this project is going to be incredibly useful for me when it comes to my personal showcase next term and my collaboration Project. I would, of course, love to be to incorporate this into my final film, perhaps it could work behind the credits or the title.
