This week we had Gabriella Ditton came in on Monday, Gabriella’s a former Animation degree student and she gave really inspiring, truthful presentation (which also came as quite a big relief) on the world of work for us after we graduate. Although she was brutally honest on certain aspects of life after graduation, she also made sure that we didn’t feel burdened by the idea that we were meant to be ‘the best’ and ‘work ready’ for the industry, like if we didn’t get our dream job right away then we have ‘failed’. It was also a reassurance to remember that a degree is a drop in the ocean compared to the long road that follows afterward when pursuing a career, and this didn’t come across to me as frightening but actually relaxing and exciting. Relaxing in the sense that my anxiety settled. I’m aware as an artist that everyone is different and people come into their stride or peak at different times in their life, it doesn’t make you better or worse than someone else. As long as you are drawing and are committed to daily pushing yourself forwards you will always progress and get better. Like I had mentioned previously in my journals I have noticed an incredible difference in myself as an artist, my confidence and my rationality on my work and life compared to how I was when I first started back in Year 1.

Development
This week Helen briefed us on our new project called ‘Collaboration Pre-Production’ where we are tasked to get into groups within the course and outside of the course to create an animation for our final end of year show case. When asked what sort of areas we would like to focus on especially in regards to practicing and getting an understanding on what it could be like to do these sorts of collaborations in the real world and how we would go about forming these collaborations. I know that I’m someone who does like quite alot of creative control but also really values creative input and other peoples ideas and techniques so I really need to work with people that I get on with as people not just there skills.
Strengths
I think i have quite a few ideas as in things I would like to make sure are apart of the collaboration, like a really cool and unique story as well as character design, interesting camera angles and detaild backgrounds.
Areas to Develop
I need to figure out who is 2D based animator and someone that I could work with for a long time efficiently and enjoy creating an animation with.
Redesigned Storyboard
I decided that looking back over my initial incompleted storyboard that some of the scenes were just way too long and there was no way that I was going to be able to condense down the animation with all those scenes into 60 seconds. I realised I needed to edit and cut out certain parts of the animation that were not needed for the clarity of the fable and continued to dissect and edit from there onwards.
I have now finished my new storyboard which I’m excited to start working on as so far it looks like it covers all of the elements and storytelling components that I wanted this piece to have. I’m going to start attempting an animatic this week now that I have a storyboard I am confident in.

Collaboration Project
For this Brief we have been set a collaboration project which will continue throughout the entirety of Year 3, I’m excited to be able to collaborate with someone who shares similarities in styles and concepts to produce something great together.
I’m not entirely sure on any ideas or who I’m going to collaborate with so I will start investigating this further next week.
Something I have seen alot of on youtube as well as in my own previous collaboration groups is the combination of everyones different styles put into one. So each scene would transition and show off somebody elses individual animation piece. I know for a fact that I don’t really want to go down this route if possible. I would rather create a piece with someone which is the same throughout and has a clear narrative. I think this is an important skill in regards to communicatin especially, it will be important to see how me and my group can work together to create something with a design each of us is comfortable to animate in.
Below is a video of Game Grumps, they are an iconic group of gamers and animators on youtube.
